What a performance last night by Lex Young at the LA Grand Prix in the Men’s 5000m!

Young took almost 3 seconds off the previous high school national record of 13:37.30, held by Connor Burns, a record that only lasted 20 days.
Rather than competing in California’s state meet this weekend, Lex decided to take a stab at the 5000m HS National Record, one of the most difficult marks in the high school record books. And boy did he succeed!

Abdihamid Nur of Nike ended up winning Friday’s marquee event and did so in remarkable fashion. The NCAA 5000m Collegiate Record Holder took a hard fall in the first lap of the race, but managed to keep his composure and cruised to a sweet victory, crossing the finishing line in a quick 13:05.17 clocking, a time that surpasses the current World Championship standard of 13:07.
