Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to interview my great grandmother as she hit the century mark—100 years old. I wanted to seek her wisdom about her secret to living a joyful life. While sitting there across from her, I kept hearing the same common theme over and over again… “Follow what Jesus did.” One hundred years of life lived, and what’s her secret? Follow Jesus. Want lasting joy? Follow Jesus. Great Grandma’s generational legacy will be passed on for generations to come. As her son, Richard, said: “Daughter of 2, Sister of 4, Wife of 1, Mom of 3, Grandma of 8, Great Grandma of 15, Great Great Grandma of 1½, friend of many, but most important, a Daughter of King Jesus.” That’s a legacy. Great Grandma’s example teaches us that after 100 years of life, the answer wasn’t money, success, or even good health—it was Jesus. A life faithfully following Him is never wasted, and it’s the kind of legacy that outlives us all.
