Sam Antonacci pulled off one of the smartest defensive plays of all time. As Jarren Duran’s fly ball was caught in the outfield, Antonacci pretended it had dropped for a hit, fooling Mexico’s baserunner, Joey Ortiz, into thinking the play was still alive. Believing the ball was on the ground, Ortiz sprinted toward the next base. Italy quickly threw the ball back to first, catching him too far off the bag and completing an incredible double play. Antonacci’s awareness and convincing fake turned a routine fly ball into an unforgettable baseball moment.
