If you're planning a trip to Edinburgh soon, you might be paying a little bit more to stay. The city has become the first in Scotland to introduce a tourist tax, which will see those staying overnight in hotels, bed and breakfasts and self-catering accommodation charged an additional 5% on top of their original booking cost. The council estimates the tax could raise around £50m a year to help fund improvements to the city, but opponents claim the additional cost could put some potential visitors off.
