Most people know Harriet Tubman from the Underground Railroad.
Fewer know this chapter:
On June 2, 1863, Tubman planned and led a military raid along the Combahee River in South Carolina.
She had spent months gathering intelligence. She knew where the Confederate torpedoes were placed. She guided Union gunboats around them.
The raid freed more than 700 people in a single night.
She was the first woman in US history to command an armed military operation.
The unfinished story has many chapters. This is one of them.
