❗️The Cybertruck was supposed to redefine the pickup market, but its sales trajectory is now drawing comparisons to one of the most notorious failures in automotive history.
Cox Automotive estimates show U.S. Cybertruck sales plunged 48.1% in 2025, falling from 38,965 units to only 20,237.
Available first- and second-quarter estimates put first-half 2026 sales at roughly 7,263 trucks, leaving Tesla nowhere near Elon Musk’s former vision of producing 200,000 to 250,000 Cybertrucks annually.
The polarizing design generated enormous attention and more than a million reported reservations, but higher pricing, reduced range compared with early promises, recalls, and limited overseas availability appear to have narrowed the real customer base.
That has revived comparisons with Ford’s Edsel, which sold approximately 116,000 vehicles before Ford terminated the program in 1959.
