Ghost wolves, or "fancy coyotes," as some researchers dub them, are a type of coyote that harbors DNA remnants of the critically endangered red wolf species, which were once thought to be extinct.
Mid-July two Ghost wolves were spotted playing along the Galveston shoreline. They can be found living in the Gulf Coast regions of Texas and Louisiana. Researchers are working to save the dwindling red wolf species.
