France is bracing for its fourth major heatwave of the year, as soaring temperatures and tinder-dry conditions across the southwest pile pressure on crews battling a giant wildfire in the Bordeaux region.
Drone footage filmed on Tuesday showed the morning sun shining through trees, revealing a mix of smoke and fog, charred trees and a burned landscape.
Elsewhere, rubble and ash was everything that was left at the site where houses once stood.
The area, southwest of the major city of Bordeaux, is covered by pine forests, which become highly flammable when dry. The fire has burned down 420 sq km so far.
