For those who have been following along, to get out of a creative and visual slump, I vowed to post a photo a day during the Seahawks training camp. Day 4 of this visual journal is an image of Seahawks receiver Jaxon-Smith Njigba making a catch during practice today, with his hands catching the ball reflected in his reflective amber face shield. Face shields are both a curse and a blessing for photographers. Note that I mentioned “curse” before “blessing” because with the shields, we are prevented from seeing their eyes, and we all know that eyes tell stories. That said, a truly reflective shield like the one JSN wears still provides an opportunity to make an interesting image. In order to make this frame really work, I had to shoot very tight, and even then, I cropped in closer for effect.
