Five San Diego date ideas that have nothing to do with a dinner reservation. I love a good meal. But this city has too much going for it to spend every date night waiting for a table. Here’s what I’d actually do — 1. Swim with the leopard sharks at La Jolla Shores. Every summer, harmless leopard sharks gather in the shallows and you can literally wade in alongside them. Free, wild, and you’ll be talking about it for weeks. 2. Drive up to the Torrey Pines Gliderport and watch paragliders launch off the cliffs. Bring a blanket, grab something from the food truck, and just be there. The coastline view alone makes the trip. 3. Hit Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Roller coaster, arcade, mini golf, it’s more fun than you think. Then walk the boardwalk until you feel like locals. 4. Sunset Cliffs at golden hour with a bottle of something bubbly.
