After 16 years, IndyCar is finally getting a new race car in 2028. This is the IR28, a ground-up design meant to decrease drag and accommodate new 2.4-liter V-6 hybrid powertrains. 100 lb lighter than its predecessor and designed from the ground up with a reduction in drag behind a leading driver in mind, the more modern IR28 should race better than its predecessor and improve on the generally excellent on-track product that has been IndyCar's calling card throughout its long current era. The most unique feature is a translucent window along the back of the engine cover, showing off the Honda or Chevrolet engines that will be powering these machines when they debut in a little over 18 months.
