I once spoke with Elizabeth Mitchell on set of Outer Banks a couple of years ago. I had zero credits to my name whatsoever, couldn’t get an agent yet, and I was only on set because I was someone else’s body double on the show. I asked her if she remembers the mindset and the experience of auditioning and struggling to get past the velvet rope of Hollywood. I so distinctly remember her response: she said the only difference between her and her many extremely talented peers that she studied with when she was in school before she had a single credit; a single role to her name— was her endurance. She outlasted the no’s, the constant rejection, the living in “you’re not good enough”. She kept pushing while everyone else dropped off. And from that day forward, I knew in order to make it in this business you have to be willing to drive until the fucking rubber burns off the tires, and still keep going. #actor #acting #audition #film
