Operators of Flora-Bama Lounge, Package & Oyster Bar announced Friday via social media that Pat McClellan had “passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday evening.” Joe Gilchrist, who died in 2022, took over the Flora-Bama in 1978 and soon began turning the out-of-the-way roadhouse into a showcase and a haven for singer-songwriters. McClellan joined him as co-owner in the mid-1980s and became instrumental in the growth of signature events such as the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival, the Interstate Mullet Toss and a New Year’s Day Polar Bear Dip.
