After years of overcrowding and aging infrastructure, the new Anderson County Detention Center is nearing completion. The current jail, which opened in 1956, can hold up to 250 inmates. Despite this, county administrator Rusty Burns explained the facility usually houses more than 500 inmates at a time. "We have people in every nook and cranny," he said. The overcrowding becomes even more challenging during the summer months, with 16 inmates in a jail cell made for six people. 🔗See link in bio for details. #AndersonCounty #AndersonCountySC #UpstateSC #newjail
