On this day in 2015, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper died at his home in Hollywood, California. He was 61. Born Roderick George Toombs in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Piper was billed from Glasgow, Scotland. He worked across the NWA territories through the 1970s and early 1980s before joining the WWF in 1984. Piper was in the main event of the first WrestleMania in 1985, teaming with Paul Orndorff against Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. His interview segment, Piper’s Pit, debuted the year before and ran in various forms for the rest of his career. He won the WWF Intercontinental Championship from The Mountie in January 1992, the only championship he held in the company, and lost it that April. He served as WWF interim president in 1995 and later worked in WCW. He is a WWE Hall of Famer.
