@Emilie_Hahn’s claymations are a fly on the wall to funny situations – like the Zumba class at your local gym. The artist’s handmade films are the product of people watching and finding a whole lot of comedic relief in the “not very glamorous” side of life. To bring these characters to life, the animator builds puppets from wire, foam and clay and sews tiny fabric clothes to fit their form. She then builds her sets with simple, everyday craft and household materials like wood, cardboard and paint, shooting each frame one by one in her studio until she takes the final thing into After Effects, Photoshop or Premiere to polish everything off (and add a great soundtrack on top). This detailed, laborious production process is Emilie’s way of looking at the world under a magnifying glass: “To me, making art is a form of paying attention.
