Spain declared a state of emergency on July 24th after uncontrolled wildfires came dangerously close to the Madrid and Avila regions. The Spanish interior minister declared the emergency after the fires burned nearly 50,000 hectares and forced tens of thousand of people to be evacuated. Many are crowded into shelters wondering if they will have a home to return to after the fires are under control. Another heatwave is anticipated this week with temperatures forecast to hit 42C.
