On July 29, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958, establishing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). For today, Howard letterpress printed an image from a photo engraving that was originally made for a flyer our print shop printed for a previous exhibit our museum had in conjunction with the former Science Center. This image depicts a rocket engine mounted on a stand. Howard also discussed a past career he had and his connection to the printed image. This wood type below states “NASA” and was made in the late 1880s by the Hamilton Wood Type Company. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #SacHistoryMuseum #onthisday #NASA #museumtok #printing
