5 things nobody tells you before buying a 996 Turbo (and why it's still the best bang-for-your-buck 911):
1. The Mezger flat-six in the Turbo is NOT the same engine that gave the base 996 its reliability horror stories. It's the motorsport-derived unit shared with the GT1. Completely different animal. Stop confusing them.
2. You're getting 415hp with all-wheel drive and available manual transmission for less than a new base Cayman. At current prices, nothing else with a Porsche crest on the hood gives you this much performance per dollar. That window is closing fast.
3. The driving experience is raw in a way modern turbocharged 911s simply aren't. No PASM, no adaptive anything. Hydraulic steering, mechanical throttle response, and boost that hits like it means it. You feel everything through the chassis.
4. Budget for IMS bearing inspection, coolant pipe upgrades, and turbo wastegate actuators on day one. These aren't "if" items, they're "when" items. A pre-purchase inspection from...
