Last call has come for a longtime downtown Boston institution. Hennessy’s Bar has officially closed after nearly 30 years near Quincy Market, ending a run that made the Irish pub a familiar spot for live music, late nights, match days and plenty of nights that lasted longer than planned. The timing gave Hennessy’s one pretty memorable send-off. Just weeks before closing, the pub was packed with soccer fans throughout the World Cup, including huge crowds of Scottish supporters. The story ain’t quite over though, as Hennessy’s owners plan to transfer the bar’s liquor license to Bar 23, a new 75-seat, steak-focused restaurant planned for the Seaport next year. By the way, we have a weekly newsletter rounding up what’s worth doing and knowing about Boston. One newsletter. Once a week. Link in bio.
