A 73 year old parking attendant at ASU says one of the food delivery robots on campus reversed into her leg and put her on the ground. She’s now suing the company that makes them. Trudy Perez filed a personal injury complaint in Maricopa County Superior Court against Starship Technologies, alleging strict product liability and negligence. According to the filing, the six-wheeled rover crossed in front of her near the East Lemon Street entrance of the Apache Boulevard Parking Structure. As she walked behind it, the suit says the machine abruptly reversed without warning, struck her in the lower leg and sent her down hard. The complaint claims she suffered severe, debilitating and permanent injuries that still require treatment. Her attorneys argue the rover’s self-driving software and sensors were in a defective and unreasonably dangerous condition, and that Starship was using the ASU campus as a testing ground to develop the technology.
