A New River home burned to the ground Monday morning, and the crews who showed up couldn’t get close enough to stop it. Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical was dispatched near Central Avenue and Honda Bow Road just before 5 a.m. on July 27. The house was already fully involved when the first crews arrived. Capt. Jensen Schell said the problem wasn’t the fire behavior, it was the property. Debris was scattered everywhere, including several RVs, cars and at least one boat, and crews couldn’t get into the positions they needed. Limited water in the area added to it. What they did manage was significant. Every secondary structure on the property survived, the neighboring exposures were protected, and the fire never got into the surrounding brush, which in that part of the north Valley in July could have turned into something much worse.
