For four years, Rachel Hansen’s family has waited for the answer Gilbert police now say they may be getting closer to. Just after 2 a.m. on June 4, 2022, the 19-year-old called 911 herself and told the dispatcher someone had entered her Gilbert apartment and attacked her. Rachel was taken to the hospital but passed away hours later. According to the police report, there may have been a warning two nights earlier. Rachel texted her boyfriend that she woke up to an unknown person opening her bedroom door and looking inside before leaving. Gilbert police now say they have a “strong theory” about what occurred, along with active leads and possible forensic work happening behind the scenes.
