Arizona police detained a man over a broken window. He passed away in custody with a body temperature of 107. Officers were called to an apartment complex near 27th and Campbell around 3:50 pm Tuesday after a caller reported a man breaking a window and acting erratically. Police handcuffed him, then called the fire department when they saw he had hurt himself and was incoherent. Paramedics found his body temperature at 107 degrees and rushed him to a hospital, where he died. An internal temperature that high is heatstroke territory, the range where doctors say organs begin to fail and rapid cooling is the only thing that saves a life. The Valley was under an extreme heat warning that day and it was around 106 degrees outside when officers arrived. Police have not said what pushed his temperature that high, and the medical examiner has not ruled on a cause of death. He has not been named.
