A Pima County woman is fighting for her life after an argument allegedly escalated into a violent assault.
According to court documents, 27-year-old Dahseir Edward Jefferson got into an argument with a man and a woman outside a home on July 25. Investigators say Jefferson first struck the man, causing him to fall and hit his head before allegedly turning his attention to the woman.
Court records state Jefferson hit the woman with enough force to knock her unconscious, causing serious injuries that left her in critical condition. She was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. During Jefferson’s initial appearance, prosecutors said detectives do not expect her to survive and that he could face additional or more serious charges depending on her condition.
Jefferson is currently charged with two counts of aggravated assault. A judge set his bond at $150,000, and his next court appearance is scheduled for August 7.
