An Arizona sixth grader’s first day of middle school turned into a missing-person search while he waited outside in 111° heat.
The 11-year-old missed his bus in Casa Grande, but his mom says she was told he had already been dropped off. Seven officers and neighbors searched the area while he remained at the school without a phone.
More than two hours after dismissal, a custodian found him on campus. He had run out of water, developed a headache and told his mom he thought she had forgotten him.
The district says it reviewed the incident and changed its dismissal procedures to ensure students are accounted for.
How does a student remain outside for hours without anyone realizing he never left?
