Sunday morning in Tempe and there’s a geyser in the middle of the street.
Police say 21 year old Gabriel Haynes was doing donuts in his pickup truck near Kyrene Road and Grove Parkway when he lost control and slammed into a fire hydrant. The hydrant sheared and sent a tower of water straight up.
The break flooded roads, sidewalks and front yards in the neighborhood and knocked out the water line. Crews had the area shut down for hours getting it repaired. Roads had only partially reopened by that evening.
Tempe police say the damage is more than $10,000. Haynes was arrested and faces a charge of criminal damage for recklessly damaging utility property.
Somebody’s whole Sunday, gone, over a burnout. What’s the dumbest thing you’ve watched someone try in a Valley parking lot?
