Arizona’s extreme heat just pushed electricity use to its highest level ever across much of the state.
️
On Friday, July 24, 2026, APS customers used a record 9,053 megawatts of electricity between 5 and 6 p.m. That’s enough power to serve roughly 1.4 million Arizona homes at once.
The new record surpassed the previous peak of 8,648 megawatts set on August 7, 2025. It also marks the fourth consecutive year APS customers have broken the all-time energy-use record.
APS says extreme temperatures, Arizona’s growing population and new businesses are driving demand higher, but the power grid remained stable throughout the surge.
What temperature are you keeping your A/C at, and how high has your electric bill gotten this summer?💸
