There are 41 screens on earth that can show The Odyssey the way Christopher Nolan actually shot it, and one of them sits inside a mall in Tempe. Harkins Arizona Mills has the state’s only full size IMAX, a six story screen with more than 430 seats. It is the only Arizona venue on IMAX’s official 70mm list, which means it is the only place in Arizona running the real format instead of a digital version. The film is the first ever shot entirely on IMAX 70mm cameras. The reel weighs roughly 800 pounds and runs 11 miles end to end. One second of screen time eats about five feet of film. Demand has been brutal. Harkins added showings after 1 a.m. to keep up, seats vanish the moment they post, and IMAX says most 70mm showtimes nationwide are sold out into September.
