Can wrath be a force for peace? In the Spiral article “Fierce Compassion in Princess Mononoke,” Ronald S. After Ashitaka is cursed by a wounded forest spirit, he is told to “see with eyes unclouded by hate.” Green explains that this is not a call to reject anger altogether, but to refuse the way anger can distort judgment. Ashitaka’s journey is not driven by revenge, but by a search to understand the origin of suffering.
