"She over-gives because she lacks information" is the story we're usually told. It's not accurate. She over-gives because giving became how she proved she was worth staying for. Boundaries require believing you're allowed to have needs that don't need to be earned first, and that belief is exactly what this pattern quietly erodes over time. This isn't a willpower problem. It's an identity pattern, and identity doesn't shift because someone finally reads the right book or takes the right course. I see this constantly in high-performing people: exceptional judgment everywhere except in how much of themselves they hand over before anyone's asked.
