Conor’s family knew he’d need a lifesaving heart transplant when, after years living with a complex condition, his symptoms began to worsen. Conor was born in March 2020 with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a rare and serious congenital heart defect. During the first two years of his life, Conor spent time in and out of the hospital and had several surgeries that helped support his heart. “It was definitely a roller coaster of emotions, but we made it through,” says Amanda, Conor’s mother. “He’d be in for his first heart surgery and then he could go home for a little bit and have kind of a normal life, but then we’d obviously have to come back a few months later.” Eventually though, Conor’s heart began to struggle more and more.
