Tiffany and Ryan are thankful for a lot this year: For their local doctor who recognized before birth that their daughter, Maklyn, needed specialized care for congenital diaphragmatic hernia. For the 16 primary nurses who cared for them and Maklyn before, during and after she was born. For the skilled surgeons who performed lifesaving surgery right after Maklyn was born when she weighed just 4 pounds, 3 ounces. For neighbors and friends back in Arizona who helped with meals, chores and caring for their dogs. For their two teenage sons, who turn from gridiron gladiators to tender-hearted big brothers whenever Maklyn’s around. For the countless other caregivers and volunteers in our hospital who made it possible for this “warrior princess” to overcome a life-threatening condition and spend her first Thanksgiving at home, healthy with her family. “1,000% we know we would not have the outcome we have now if we weren't there,” says Tiffany.
