One of the scariest moments of Zoie’s family’s life came when she was just 3 months old. On the road to Nebraska, in the middle of nowhere, Zoie began to turn blue and purple. The infant had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at just 2 weeks old, so her mother, Lindsey, assumed Zoie’s symptoms were related to her condition. They stopped at the nearest hospital, where the team determined she would need to travel by ambulance to Children’s Hospital Colorado. “I was thankful that we went to Children's because the nurses and doctors there right away realized it had nothing to do with her CF,” Lindsey says. “She was having seizures.
