At 5 years old, Drew began convulsing during sleep, speaking gibberish and staring off into space. When Drew had one of these episodes at his pediatrician’s office, the doctor diagnosed the event as a seizure. It took three years to find medications to manage his seizures, but the relief was short-lived. Drew’s seizures returned when he began puberty — a common experience for kids growing up with epilepsy. Amid these changes, his family relocated to Colorado in 2017. Drew’s family found the neurology team at Children’s Hospital Colorado, who put Drew on an aggressive treatment plan. This included a minimally invasive brain surgery called stereoelectroencephalography to pinpoint where Drew’s seizures were occurring.
