STEP 2: CONTROL THE NARRATIVE
It all started with an angry, unprofessional phone call—and a lie from the top.
On June 11, 2024, Sheriff Kim Stewart called us. She complained about her salary, insisted this was her career and not "just a hobby," and became angry when we repeatedly asked one simple thing:
Do your duty. Be professional.
She ended the call and immediately sent an email to her staff claiming that we had agreed to send all future reports directly to her.
That was false.
We still have the email.
Within minutes, we replied in writing:
➡️ We would continue reporting through dispatch. ➡️ We would not exclusively send our reports to her.
➡️ We expected deputies to respond to calls involving human remains.
Then something changed.
Over the following months, we reported six separate human remains sites.
Deputies Vargas, Johnston, and Pruitt repeatedly failed to respond or failed to recover reported remains. In one case, Deputy Vargas angrily told us he would not go.
