Carter Capps was one of the most powerful pitchers in baseball during his five MLB seasons. In 2015, he had his best year with an incredible 1.16 ERA and a fastball that could reach around 100 mph (161 km/h). His explosive pitching style made him one of the hardest pitchers to face.
Capps became famous for his unusual jump delivery. He pushed himself forward before releasing the ball, getting closer to home plate. The jump did not increase his arm speed, but it reduced the distance to the batter and made his pitches appear even faster, with a perceived velocity of about 101.7 mph.
Although he looked dominant at times, injuries affected his career. He missed the entire 2016 season because of Tommy John surgery and was never the same afterward. He finished his career with a 4.21 ERA, but his incredible velocity and unique delivery made him one of the most memorable pitchers in baseball.
