Almost four years after the Christmas Day evacuation, the Latitude Five25 towers are coming down ➡️ The towers opened in 1965 as "Bolivar Arms". They were renamed in 1969, becoming known as the "Sawyer Towers". When they opened, rent was as low as $50/month. But within months, residents reported a high number of maintenance issues – a trend that would continue for more than half a century. In 2009, the towers were scheduled for demolition, but a private investor stepped in to purchase them. They were renamed “Skyview Towers”, then “Latitude Five25”. On Christmas Day 2022, one of the buildings reached a breaking point. Pipes burst, elevators failed, and the power went out. The city ordered all of the nearly 200 residents to evacuate indefinitely.
