The J-School is well-represented in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 4 Mark of Excellence contest, with 10 winners and 23 total awards. Alina Zhuravel won the COVID-19: Video Coverage (Large) 10,000+ Students category for "We had to leave ASAP." Katie Birecki was a finalist in the same category for “Churches and coronavirus: how one local church is taking precautions.” The Focal Point staff won Best All-Around Television News Magazine category for its Special Edition 12/4/20. Focal Point also won the Best All-Around Television Newscast for its October 30th entry. Mikayla Temple was the winner of the Broadcast Feature Videography category for “A sound to soldier on.” Joe Freihofer was a finalist the same category for "Talking about yesterday or tomorrow?" Two more Spartans were recognized in Broadcast News Videography.
