You stepped on the scale this morning, saw it jump two or three pounds overnight, and let it wreck your whole mood. I want to talk you out of that, because what you saw almost certainly was not fat.
Think about it. You physically cannot eat enough in one day to gain multiple pounds of actual fat overnight. What you’re seeing is water and normal daily fluctuation, and there are a dozen harmless reasons for it. Extra sodium at dinner. A later or bigger meal than usual. A hard workout the day before that has your muscles holding water while they repair. Poor sleep. Higher stress and cortisol. Hormones shifting with your cycle. More carbs than normal. Even being backed up or a little dehydrated. None of these mean you did anything wrong, and all of them resolve on their own within a day or two.
