The Cornhuskers entered the 2015 college football season as an unknown, as the program had fired Bo Pelini as head coach following the conclusion of the 2014 season. Oregon State head coach Mike Riley was tabbed as Peliniâs replacement, bringing nearly 40 years of coaching experience to Lincoln.
BYU served as the Cornhuskersâ season opener as they looked to win their 30th consecutive home opener, but the Cougars had other plans. After Nebraska took a four-point lead to the fourth quarter, BYU knocked in a field goal to cut the lead to just one.
With just 40 seconds remaining, the Cougars got one last chance. After two first downs on the ground, BYU found themselves in Nebraska territory. And with one second on fourth down, BYU quarterback Tanner Magnum launched a moon ball towards the endzone that landed in the hands of wide receiver Mitch Matthews as time expired, giving the Cougars a 33-28 victory.
