Migrants who crossed into Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta last week were still sleeping rough, as police and military patrols remained deployed across the territory. Footage showed people waiting on a cordoned-off beach and gathering around campfires, while security forces worked to restore normality following a mass influx from Morocco. Spanish authorities said more than 50,000 people attempted to enter Ceuta during the crossings, with at least 72 deaths reported in connection with the journey. Spain has defended its migration policies after the arrivals, including a program to grant residency to more than half a million undocumented migrants.
