Today may be the last day of Black History Month, but before it closes, we want to take a moment to celebrate and honor the pioneers, athletes, and leaders who have shaped the game of lacrosse and expanded opportunities for generations to come. 🥍🖤
And we proudly recognize the pioneers who paved the way:
Albert F. Lewis – Recognized as the first known Black lacrosse player, dating back to 1888. He played for the Cornwall Club and represented the Canadian National Team, competing at a time when opportunities for Black athletes were extremely limited. He later moved to Nebraska and formed a lacrosse team that competed across the state. His presence in the sport more than a century ago is a powerful reminder that Black history in lacrosse runs deep.
Tina Sloan Green – A trailblazer in women’s lacrosse, she was the first Black member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, and the first Black head coach in women’s collegiate lacrosse at Temple University. She has dedicated decades to advoc...
