#OnThisDay in 1852, Charles Deering was born in South Paris, Maine, the son of Abby Reed Barbour and William Deering. A visionary industrialist, philanthropist, art patron, and gifted artist in his own right, Deering wore many hats throughout his lifetime. Former Northwestern University president Walter Dill Scott once said, “No one who ever knew Mr. Deering could fail to realize that he was born an artist.” His deep love for the arts, nature, and historic preservation continues to shape Miami’s cultural landscape. Today, his legacy lives on through the breathtaking Deering Estate, where some of his collection can still be seen in the Richmond Cottage, a lasting testament to his dedication to conservation, creativity, and cultural enrichment. #CharlesDeering #DeeringEstate #HappyBirthday #ArtsAtDeering #MiamiHistory
