Happy birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard!
On Aug. 4, 1790, Congress authorized the construction of the nation’s first 10 revenue cutters at the request of Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton. Established to enforce federal laws, prevent smuggling, and collect customs duties, the Revenue Marine would eventually become today’s U.S. Coast Guard.
USS Constitution and her crew honor the service members of the U.S. Coast Guard and thank them for their steadfast partnership. Whether ensuring the safety and security of our underways or protecting America’s ports and coastlines, your dedication and professionalism are deeply appreciated.
Huzzah!
