I’m very saddened to hear about the passing of Dory Funk Jr. The Funks lived and breathed professional wrestling. Dory Funk Jr. began his professional wrestling career in 1963 and reached the pinnacle of the sport in 1969 when he captured the NWA World Heavyweight Championship defeating Gene Kiniski. He held the title for over four years, marking the second-longest uninterrupted reign in the belt’s history. Dory represented technical excellence, toughness, and professionalism for over six decades. Alongside his brother Terry, he helped shape the legacy of All Japan Pro Wrestling, elevated the NWA across the globe, and later passed his knowledge on to generations of future stars From classic championship battles to mentoring tomorrow’s legends, Dory’s fingerprints are all over the wrestling business.
