Learning about cultural fire. The collaboration between CAL FIRE, Blue Lake Rancheria, Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty Lab and Traditional Ecological Knowledge Institute, and the Yurok Tribe continued this year to promote education about cultural burning, build relationships with fire practitioners, and learn from organizations across California and international groups how they are using good fire to improve the landscape. The Cultural Fire Symposium is a two-day event in Humboldt County that includes panel discussions followed by a cultural burn demonstration. Participants have the opportunity to experience firsthand how Traditional Ecological Knowledge is applied through the use of fire.
