We keep asking why anxiety feels so much more common now, and I don't think the honest answer is that something is wrong with this generation. I think life has simply gotten louder. More decisions to make, more comparison in front of us at all times, more uncertainty about what comes next. Our minds are processing more information than they were ever built to process quietly, so of course the volume is going up.
Here's how I'd look at it instead:
1. Notice the noise before you judge the reaction. What feels like overreacting is often your mind just keeping up with genuinely more input.
2. Ask what you can turn down, not what you can turn off. You don't need less awareness; you need fewer things competing for it at once.
3. Give yourself permission to respond to volume, not weakness. A loud environment produces a loud internal response, that's not a flaw.
