Come take a look at the new Ferrari Amalfi Spider with editor @zacpalmerr. He drove the Amalfi coupe last year, and found it a splendid evolution of the Roma. There had been a stigma to driving the entry-level Ferrari during the awkward California years, that car having originally been designed as a Maserati. But Maranello has moved on since then, and the Amalfi Spider is, on paper, the preferable version of the brand's latest front-engined V-8 two-door. The 3.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 shoved way back in the engine bay is good for 631 hp at 7500 rpm and 561 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm, all of which is sent through an eight-speed transaxle and electronically-controlled limited-slip differential, then onward to the rear wheels. Unfortunately, the engine is a bit diminished in the sound department, as Ferrari's mufflers are engineered for Europe’s noise emission regulations.
