🚨 Black America lost roughly $87 billion in income.
The National Urban League just released its 50th annual State of Black America report, and the numbers tell a hard story.
Between the job losses among Black women and men over the past year and rising housing costs, the report says Black America lost roughly $87 billion in income. At the same time, the report points to civil rights attacks, cuts to Medicare, and growing student loan disparities as ongoing threats.
Still, the report doesn't stop at the problems. It lays out three imperatives for the road ahead: defeat poverty, defend democracy, and demand diversity, with a call for stronger coalitions, legal resistance, and investment in HBCUs and Black owned businesses.
As NUL president Marc Morial put it, hope is not a strategy. The work starts now.
